BEST TRADITIONAL HUNGARIAN RESTAURANT
„Tasty and representative Hungarian cuisine has been served in this popular, elegant setting by the National Museum since 1885. High ceilings, tiled walls and tall windows provide plenty of light, and well-spaced tables embellish the fin-de-siécle ambience. The menu is extensive, with a big difference in price from one dish to another: you can easily spend a fortune or dine reasonably cheaply. Hungarian and a number of international dishes are carefully prepared and served in big portions, but presentation occasionally wins out over culinary good taste. If you only have time for one Magyar meal, this is a decent choice.”
Time Out Budapest in English 2011 january RESTAURANT of the MONTH An air of belle-époque splendor envelops guests at Múzeum restaurant, a well-preserved historic monument of fine Hungarian dining continually operating since 1885, right next door to downtown Budapest’s National Museum. However, while the authentically nostalgic atmosphere and live piano music evokes sensations of a bygone era, the menu offers modern Magyar cuisine served with contemporary panache. Traditional specialties include Tisza-style fish soup made with catfish and carp or roast goose leg with dried apricot cabbage and onion mashed potatoes, alongside other modern dishes like aged beef tendorloin with green peppercorn and bitter-merlot sauce.
