The history of our restaurant

Muzeum Restaurant

Múzeum Café and Restaurant belongs to the best traditional Hungarian restaurants and is operating in Pest’s historical downtown since 1885.

Predecessor of the Restaurant was well know as Schódli Café the names of our prominent clientele are entered in the guest book – including Members of Parliament, writers, and actors registered itself in history of budapester cafes.

Because its past and tradition represents durable values in the Hungarian gastronomy and Hungarian taste it is arranged with the newest technology. The menu offers gently modernized masterpieces from the Hungarian - and international cuisines, with experienced selection of the national wines – and brandies

The walls are covered in tiles from the world-famous Zsolnay porcelain works. The unique hand-carved wood paneling is under the protection of the Preservation Trust. The jewel of the piano room is a painted ceiling by Károly Lotz, entitled Csikosverseny. Another unique feature is an original 19th century Venetian mirror.

Our place in the Hungarian hospitality industry

Helyünk a magyar vendéglátásban

We proudly represent our past: the traditional Hungarian kitchen. However, while we honor our past, we continue to update our menu, utilizing the freshest ingredients that are at the heart of a healthful diet.

We offer the values of Hungarian gastronomy that have withstood the test of time, while employing the most modern technology to ensure the continuation of quality

- Tradition meets the present.

Our restaurant can accommodate 120 persons, which makes it ideal for small gatherings and intimate weddings. - The classical style piano hall can sit 40 people, in the evenings there is live music.

Dániel Albert is playing the piano for the dinner guests here.

In 2009 we renovated our 40-seat Café which over-looks Múzeum Boulevard, it is operating under the name of Café from now on.The change of the name means change in the style at this place: adjusts to nowadays life styles, we are waiting for our guests for a quick, bistro lunch.

The banqueting hall can sit and serve also 40 people, it can be totally separated from the main restaurant. It is also in possession of the Restaurant’s classical values, but can adjust to the type of certain programmes, company and family events as well.

In case of a smaller group we can separate the Piano room and/or the Private room (max. 80 people)
